The Blue Jazz Band is a fun, encouraging and introductory-level jazz experience, new to Westwinds last year!
We will be exploring and introducing fundamental jazz concepts and skills while focusing on having fun! We will introduce the concept of “swing”, jazz articulations and different jazz styles while working on popular jazz hits.
The ensemble will be a type of “exploration ensemble”, trying out jazz-isms and jazz styles in the safety of a group, as opposed to a performance-based ensemble. Our intention is to run the band in a very relaxed way while learning these jazz ideas.
It is best that you have at least 1 year playing experience on your instrument to feel confident while exploring these new ideas.
All instruments are welcome, from Oboe to Tuba. Even string instruments!! We will be rehearsing 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM Monday nights. Location Living Spirit United Church, 629 - 49 Ave SW.
Looking forward to sharing this toe-tapping music with you all!
