Monique
is very pleased to be the new director of the Westwinds Green Choir and
is looking forward to the next year with excitement and anticipation.
Monique
Olivier graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a Bachelor of
Music in voice performance under Dr. George Evelyn and a Bachelor of
Education (2005). Monique spent the last two years teaching
Musical Theatre at Sir Winston Churchill High School where she was
constantly inspired by the enthusiasm, positive attitudes and
creativity of her students. She is very excited to be joining the music
department at William Aberhart High School in the fall of 2010.
Monique
is passionate about both performing and teaching vocal music. She
has been fortunate to sing with some very fine choirs including the
Canadian Chamber Choir and the Canadian National Youth Choir. She
currently sings with Calgary’s Spiritus Chamber Choir and the Anglican
Cathedral Church of the Redeemer as Alto Section Leader. While
she finds her work with choirs to be very gratifying, she is also a
skilled soloist. In the spring of 2009 Monique was the
mezzo-soprano soloist for “The Erotic Anguish of Don Juan” which was
produced by Alberta Theatre Projects and The Old Trout Puppet Theatre
Company. She was also selected as one of two soprano
soloists for Steven Reich’s “Drumming,” conducted by Bob Becker at the
Banff Fine Arts Centre. She has performed the roles of Madame
Flora in Menotti’s The Medium (2004), Suki Tawdry in The Beggars Opera (2003), and 3rd Lady in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro
(2002) with the University of Lethbridge Opera Workshop. Monique
also had the pleasure of teaching private voice lessons for the
Lethbridge Conservatory of Music from 2003-2005.
