Ross received his
formal education at the University of Calgary,
graduating with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1987
and a Diploma of Education in 1989. In 1995, he
returned to the U of C to complete a Bachelor of
Education Degree and co-conduct the University
"Red" Jazz Ensemble.
He began his teaching
career at Bishop Pinkham Junior High School, where
he taught for 9 wonderful years. In that time, he
and his students had many successes including a
silver medal in 1992 (Winnipeg), and a gold medal
in 1993 (Vancouver) from the Canadian National
Music Festival. His jazz and wind groups have
consistently been awarded the "Most Outstanding
Band" trophies at the "Alberta International Band
Festival". In 1993 he was one of twenty teachers
to receive the "Excellence in Teaching" award from
the Alberta government. Ross was awarded the Tommy
Banks Award in February, 2001. This award is
presented to one director each year from the
Province of Alberta for outstanding contribution
to Jazz education.
Presently, Ross is
enjoying his forth year as part of the music
faculty at Lord Beaverbrook High School where he
has recently been nominated for a "Pan Canadian
Student Choice" award. Both his jazz and wind
groups at Lord Beaverbrook have been selected for
gold awards for superior performance.
Ross
works extensively throughout the province as a
guest conductor and clinician, including
"MusiCamrose" and the "U of C Summer Band Camp".
Ross has a very supportive family with his
wonderful wife Robin and their two daughters,
Taylor and
Logan
