Earl
Paddock received his Bachelor of Music (1976) from the University of
Calgary and his Master of Music Education (1991) from the University of
Missouri at Columbia. Earl began his teaching career in 1977 and he
taught band with the Calgary Board of Education for 30 years. His last
17 years were spent teaching at William Aberhart High School where his
bands received constant recognition for their outstanding performances
at local and international concerts and festivals.
Earl has been
awarded a Government of Alberta Excellence in Teaching Award, and the
David Peterkin Memorial Award from the Alberta chapter of the
International Band Masters Fraternity Phi Beta Mu in recognition of
outstanding contributions to Band and Band Music in Alberta. In 2007
Earl was awarded the "Elkhorn Award" from the Alberta Band Association.
This "Band Director of the Year" award is presented to someone who has
exhibited outstanding service not only to music education but also to
the Alberta Band Association.
In addition to co-directing the
Westwinds Green band, Earl is also the Music Director of the Calgary
Concert Band and the Executive Director of the Calgary Stetson Show
Band. He is a past president of the Alberta Band Association and is
active as a guest conductor, adjudicator and clinician. Earl is a
member of Kappa Delta Pi (Education Honor Society), Pi Kappa Lambda
(Music Honor Society), Phi Beta Mu (International Band Fraternity), and
Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia (International Music Fraternity).
