Frequently Asked Questions

These are some of the most frequently asked questions that Westwinds receives.

Do I have to be 18 years of age in order to join and perform in Westwinds?

Yes. Westwinds is an Adult organization and you must be 18 years of age in order to become a member of the Society.

Does Westwinds operate any non-Adult groups?

No. Westwinds does not compete with existing musical education groups such as the boards of education, colleges, etc.

Why do rehearsals start so late in September and January?

As Westwinds rents rehearsal space in schools, our access to those venues is set out by Calgary Parks and Recreation. We are not allowed in the schools until the week after students have returned to classes.

What is the relationship between the Executive and the Directors?

The Executive and Directors have a very positive working relationship. The Directors are responsible for the artistic integrity of Westwinds, including selection of music, programs for events, etc. The Executive and other volunteers look after the infrastructure to ensure that the program can continue.

What plans are in the works for Westwinds travel in the summer of 2010?

A trip to Spain is being planned for the summer of 2010. Visit the Spain 2010 Tour page for more information.

What is the role of the Group Manager?

The Group Managers act as liaison between the individual groups and the Executive & office. They play a vital role in ensuring that members are kept abreast of current information. They also help with various tasks within the group as arranged with their Directors and the office. The Group Managers meet together occasionally to share ideas and concerns.
